A Creative Journey: Kolor Banwa, Lola Liling’s Lutong Bahay, and South Breeze Café
Kolor Banwa and Lola Liling’s Lutong Bahay recently held a successful art workshop for kids in Southern Leyte. The event brought together young aspiring artists who eagerly participated in the creative session. Under the guidance of Kolor Banwa’s talented artists, Aljun Alvarez, Katrina De La Cruz, Philip Salem, and Archie Prisno, the children not only learned various art techniques but also discovered their own artistic potentials. Their enthusiasm and talent amazed the members of Kolor Banwa, inspiring the group to plan an advanced art workshop aimed at unlocking the maximum potential of these young artists.
This initiative was also a fulfillment of a long-time dream of Emman Jostol, who has always envisioned a continuous program for Talent and Skills Development for Hinundayan and Southern Leyte as a whole. He believes that nurturing young talents and giving them the right platform to grow can transform the community, bringing more opportunities and a stronger sense of cultural pride.
Kolor Banwa’s creative journey in Hinundayan was further complemented by the delicious meals provided by Lola Liling’s Lutong Bahay. The group enjoyed hearty servings of Lola Liling’s specials, ensuring their energy and spirits remained high throughout the workshop. According to Kolor Banwa, their stomachs were always full, a testament to the generous hospitality and mouth-watering food prepared with love and tradition.
Their artistic adventure did not stop there. Kolor Banwa also made a stop at South Breeze Café, known for its sweet indulgences, freshly brewed coffee, inviting ambiance, and lively games of billiards.
The group took time to enjoy the cozy space, indulging in sweet treats, sipping on aromatic coffee, and competing in friendly rounds of billiards. According to them, South Breeze Café provided the perfect setting to unwind and enjoy the laid-back charm of Hinundayan.

Kishia Mae Awayan, the owner of South Breeze Café, even went the extra mile by offering free treats in addition to their orders. She surprised them with delicious street foods and consistently checked in with her staff to ensure that their stay was as enjoyable as possible. Kolor Banwa appreciated the warm hospitality and the thoughtful gesture, making their visit even more memorable.
Initially, Kolor Banwa had plans to hold a free art sketching session for the community at South Breeze Café. Unfortunately, time constraints prevented it from happening. However, they promised to make it a reality during their next visit. In the spirit of community and art, they did offer a free sketch to one of the café’s staff members, Christine Bag-ao, a gesture that was deeply appreciated.
Reflecting on the trip, Kolor Banwa expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome and the enthusiasm of the kids during the workshop. They are committed to returning with even bigger plans for art sessions and community engagement. South Breeze Café also received high praises from the group for its excellent food, delightful sweets, freshly brewed coffee, and its cozy ambiance where visitors can relax, play billiards, and enjoy the company of friends. Kolor Banwa thoroughly enjoyed their experience at the café, making it a memorable part of their Southern Leyte visit.
Kolor Banwa’s presence and passion for art continue to inspire the community, proving that Southern Leyte is not just a place for relaxation but also a nurturing ground for artistic growth and community bonding.
